A Fun Way to Keep Learning Alive at Home

A Fun Way to Keep Learning Alive At Home!

If you’re like me, you struggle with finding fun things for your kids to do that also teach them a little something. My daughter attends a weekday school (see my post on my experience of her first ‘First Day of School’ here!) and has done amazing things with learning letters, colors, and all sorts of words. As summer is approaching, I’ve been worried about how I would continue her learning while she is on summer break. And then inspiration came in an email…

I was contacted by education.com, who sent me the most adorable, FREE,Easter Themed maze worksheet to share on the blog (see attachment below). I thought it was so cute and wondered what else they have on their site so I did a little digging and wanted to share what I found

(Disclosure: I do not receive commission from this post – just sharing my honest opinion and the worksheet they provided!).

When I landed on their website, the first thing I noticed is a heading that said they have over “30,000 games, lessons, and activities” that are created by teachers. I was immediately impressed.

Sometimes I end up on Pinterest looking for toddler learning activities, only to be left wondering if I’m really teaching her something or if this is just a fun fluff activity. I love the idea of a teacher creating something for me. This really helps me be sure that we are spending our time on an activity that is actually providing useful learning tools and enjoyment at the same time.

I clicked on their printable worksheets section and found everything from solar system sheets to alphabet dot-to-dot. I also looked through their online games and found just as much variability. There truly is something for every age group!

Here are links and an image of the easter-themed learning worksheet they sent for me to share with you:

And now that I’m thinking about it, how many of you struggle with screen time limits for your kids? I know this has been an ongoing conversation in regards to my stepson. I think education.com’s online games might be super helpful in these cases. If screen time means being able to play learning -based games, then I’m all for it (in controlled doses, of course)! This could be a great compromise for the screen time challenges we are all bound to face in our homes!

All that I have covered so far was just what was offered for FREE. As my daughter grows, it is likely I may join one of their membership options to gain access to even more learning tools.

Here is a link to their pricing for memberships. From what I can gather, membership provides you with unlimited access to all of their tools. You can even create your own customized worksheet that fits whatever it is you want your child to learn! I think that opens up so many awesome opportunities to help your child learn and/or give them extra support in subjects that they might have more difficulty in. You can even access teacher-created guided learning plans to help in those challenging subjects. As a young girl, I could have really used this to help get me over my lifelong math struggle!

One of the ways I tried to help my toddler learn colors was by mixing food coloring into icing. We did learn something about colors - but we really enjoyed licking the spoons!
My attempt at fun learning activities: mixing and coloring icing! We did identify some colors – but I think we enjoyed licking the spoons even more!

Ultimately, I’m really excited about this site and I’m so thankful they contacted me. I already printed out a few additional worksheets to use with my daughter on the days she is not at weekday school. I feel so much better knowing I can engage her in an activity that actually helps her learn something in the time she is home with me.

I’m all about the cuddles as well as the opportunity to develop creativity and problem solving in unstructured play, but I believe these little worksheets and games will be a great addition to our time together.
