A while back, I wrote this post and this post about how much I love the FitBod app and how it has absolutely become my favorite workout app. (I also posted an awesome Fit Bod Promo Code so you could get a discount on your membership – more information on that can be found at the bottom of this post!) Since then, I started doing Pilates regularly and got away from using my app as frequently as I used to. But all the festivities of this Easter weekend made my normal routine hard to manage, so I pulled out my FitBod app and got to work at home.

Two things I noticed:

  1. I REALLY missed my FitBod workouts and I missed exercising at home. There’s something about jamming out to my own music while following a pre-made routine that I don’t have to think much about that just makes me happy. There’s a reason this became my favorite workout app, so I really need to work it back into my weekly rotation.
  2. FitBod as done A LOT of work on their app since the last time I used it and I wanted to be sure to share some of my favorite new features with you.

Here are a few of updates in my favorite workout app that I am totally in love with and very excited about:

  • Warm-up/Cool-down/Stretching: FitBod now has the ability to create a complete workout for you! This now includes warm-up exercises and, wait for it, stretches! Yes, FitBod, THANK YOU!! This was really missing from previous versions of the app. To begin, good warm-ups and stretching go a long way to preventing injuries. Especially when you are lifting and putting a great deal of strain on your muscles. Also, flexibility is an imperative part of physical fitness. Not including some degree of stretching as part of an exercise regimen really disregards true, well-rounded, physical fitness. I used to create my own warm-ups and then stretch at the end on my own, but I could never add that into my workout on the app. I am so happy that I can do that now and, as an added bonus, I also get new ideas to add into my routine. This is, by far, my favorite new addition!
  • Resistance Bands: I’ve talked on social media about how much I love using resistance bands in my workouts (you can see my current favorite set here). FitBod has now added resistance band exercises into their library of exercise options – which makes me one really happy girl! If you workout at home or while traveling, then this is a huge deal. Resistance bands are relatively cheap and compact so they are easy to have as part of a home gym or to take with you on the road. The ability to use them as part of your FitBod app is really helpful!
  • Foam Rolling: This is really part of the first bullet, but I decided that it was important enough to get it’s own write up. FitBod has now added foam rolling exercises into their database. I have shied away from foam rolling, but I know it is really important for me to have as part of my fitness schedule. Foam rolling helps you recover faster from tough workouts and can reduce muscle soreness. It also can help improve flexibility and range of motion… therefore reducing a whole lot of injuries! Since FitBod includes videos of each exercise, it makes foam rolling much more accessible. I finally bit the bullet and did it this weekend following the prompts on my app… and I have to admit… while it was painful, I felt better afterwards! I’m glad I can now build a routine that includes this activity. If it’s in the plan on my FitBod, then I’m much more likely to actually do it. Looking forward to lots of rolling in my future! (P.s. check my Favorite Things to buy one for yourself!)
  • Missing Exercise Recommendations: I noticed this about the app but didn’t realize it was a bug until I read what the most recent update “fixed.” The explanation with the update said that it fixes a bug where people on the “muscle tone” plan wouldn’t get certain exercises recommended to them. Muscle Tone is normally the plan I workout with and I did notice that I there were exercises in the system that I could do but never were recommended to me. I often tried to add them in manually myself, but this update should be fixing that problem which is great!
  • And finally, FitBod now works on my Apple Watch: This means that now I don’t have to turn my phone back on each time I need to log an exercise. Super annoying in the middle of a work out. Now I just cue it up on my watch and log exercises from my wrist. I only need to look at my phone if I need a video or explanation.

This screenshot from a recent workout includes one of the dynamic stretches included in my warm-up, plus one of the new Resistance Band Exercises added to one of my circuits! I’m loving changing up my FitBod routines!

I always like to give balanced reviews, so along with the above positives, here are a few things that I’d love to see in the future:

  • I’d like to add resistance bands as “added weight” to some of the regular exercises. For example, I do the Clam exercise with a resistance band. FitBod currently doesn’t let me add the band as added weight. I end up having to guesstimate how many pounds of resistance my band is and then add it manually, but I’d love an easier method. Not a big issue because there is a work around, but still on my wishlist!
  • Although my FitBod app now works on my Apple Watch – there were a few hiccups when I tried to go back and forth between logging exercises on my watch and then on my phone. I thought I could use either one depending on what I was doing and what was more convenient. I found, however, that some of my logged exercises wouldn’t be correct when I reviewed my complete list at the end of the workout. My suggestion would be to use only your phone or only your watch when logging your sets. Double check it all before you hit ‘complete workout’ just in case!

Besides those two really minor things – I am really impressed with all the changes the have made within the app and all the new ways they are working to ensure we all get a great workout. Don’t forget that I have another post that goes over the app in general and all the ways it can make your workout better and more convenient – you can read “My New Favorite Workout App” by clicking the link.

I thought I loved using FitBod before, but these new additions have really taken the whole experience to a new level.

I’m looking forward to getting back into the groove of using my favorite workout app at home with FitBod. During the summer, my daughter is home all day, every day, so FitBod is my go-to for convenient naptime workouts. I’m really excited to work in all the new exercises and keep all my workouts fresh and challenging.
